Mila Vocal Ensemble will hold its next round of auditions on August 14 and 21, 2025!

Mila is a women’s cappella singing group, specializing in Balkan and Eastern European music. We sing challenging, beautiful songs in many different folk styles and in many different languages. We rehearse every Thursday evening in St. Paul.

We are seeking singers with a passion for learning about unfamiliar singing styles and exploring new aspects of vocal performance. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have experience singing in moderately difficult harmony, and can both read and memorize complex music.

While we welcome all voice types to this round of auditions, we are especially on the lookout for singers with strong lower voices (think alto 2/contralto) and those with a flexible vocal range who can sing strongly on low parts as needed.

For your audition we ask that you prepare:

• 2 solos in 2 different languages, 1 can be in English (30-45 seconds each)

• A group song that we’ll sing together

• A completed questionnaire about your musical background

During your audition, we’re going to be listening for your ability to confidently cover a part on your own or together with one other singer. If you’re not already well-versed in singing in harmony, we recommend that you practice singing with others or singing along with Mila’s music on a non-melody part to prepare for our audition process.
